Hello! How are you? Today, I want to tell you about body language. In Suzanne class, we learned body language of various countries. I enjoyed very much. Before learning them, I didn't think about body language so much. Have you ever thought about body language of other countries? You will know that body language of your country is sometimes different from it of Japan. I knew that, too. Today, I knew new meaning of body language and I was really surprised. For example, most Japanese girls pat our hair. Do you do that? If I pat my hair in your country, you will think that I like myself. I didn't know that. I was really surprised. I often do that, but there isn't meaning. If I go to your country, I won't pat hair (>_<) Our countries have body language that show different meanings. It is interesting, isn't it? There is body language in only Japan when we take a picture. Do you see my picture? Look at our hands. We posed. It is peace. You don't do that, do you? In Japan, almost people do that, but I don't know the reason. When I take pictures, I always do that, but I have never thought that why I do this pose. I want to know that! If I have a time, I will check it! Do you know a interesting body language of your country? If you know that, please tell me.

I didn't know about Japanese girls patting their hair! It is hard to think of body language because that is just natural for us. I think the only difference I can think of between Japanese and America is when we point to ourselves, I think Japanese often point to their nose, but Americans point to our chest. Also, when we want someone to come to us, Americans do the opposite of Japanese. I tried to explain this but I can't write it in words...When I was in my home-stay in Japan, the first time my host Mother did that motion, I thought she was telling me to go away. I was so confused!
Hi, Ayu^^ Why did you take photo with Harayui-!? With me!^^ Someday let’s take photo I, you and Yoshiko together and put the photo on blog!
This topic is really interesting for us. I want to know many body languages and want to know reason why we do peace when we take photo. It is usual for us and everyone do that, even children and grand mother, father…everyone. But it is strange for others. I am going to research the reason.
And I read Mike's comment and understand what he wants to say. (He said opposite body language when we want someone to come.)
We often do that its meaning "come here^^" But American think this mean is "Go away"...It is so bad! We Japanese must not do that in America. We will make American confused if we do that! If we doesn’t know these different meaning between Japan and America, we can’t communicate with them well. So we have to know body language to communicate with them.
I was trying to think of some interesting body language that Americans use, but it's hard to think of something that you don't notice!! Sometimes when I ride the bus and there are no seats left, very rarely will a guy offer me his seat. I think that should change because it is very rude to make a short girl stand!! Most guys won't look at you even if you are struggling to hang on to the rail. In the U.S., it used to be that if there was a woman on the bus, a man should offer her his seat, but they don't do that anymore.
A custom that the Japanese do that I like is thanking everyone often. When you got to a McDonald's in Japan, they thank you when you order, when you hand them the money, and when you receive your food. In America, you may or may not be thanked for eating there!! I think Japanese people appreciate the business (and I know they have to say it too because it's their job) but Americans should say it and they don't. Americans tend to take their customers for granted!
Do you know what I am talking about??
